***  Call for Workshops/Minisymposia/Events for CG-Week at SoCG 2012 ***

The 28th Symposium on Computational Geometry (SoCG) will take place
June 17-20, 2012 on the campus of the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill.  See http://socg2012.web.unc.edu/.

During the days (June 17-20) of the conference, though not conflicting
with the talk sessions of SoCG, will run a series of afternoon events,
under the collective title Computational Geometry: Applications,
Practice, and Theory (CG:APT), which, together with SoCG, will
constitute "CG-Week 2012".

Proposals are invited for workshops/minisymposia, or other types of
events on topics related to all aspects of computational geometry and
its applications.  Typical events may feature some number of invited
speakers and possibly some number of contributed presentations.
Events may feature other forms of communications/presentations too,
e.g., via software demos, panel discussions, industry forum,
tutorials, posters, videos, implementation challenge, artwork, etc.
CG:APT events will have no formal proceedings; optionally, the
organizers may coordinate with journals to publish special issues or
arrange for other dissemination (e.g., via arXiv, webpages, printed
booklets, etc).

Possible topics might include (in alphabetic order): algebraic
  methods, biology, cache-oblivious algorithms, chemistry,
  computational photography, computational topology, computer
  graphics, computer vision, conformal geometry, differential
  geometry, folding/origami, games, geographic information systems,
  geometric aspects of privacy, geometric software, geometry of
  graphs, geometry processing, high-dimensional geometric algorithms,
  implementation challenges, machine learning, manufacturing, massive
  datasets, mesh generation, motion planning, optimization, physical
  simulation, physics, real-world applications of CG, robotics, sensor
  networks, surface reconstruction, visualization

Proposals should be brief (at most 2 printed pages) and should
include:

 1. Title/theme of the workshop/minisymposium/event
 2. Organizer(s) (name, email)
 3. Brief scientific summary and discussion of merits (to CG) of the 
    proposed topic.
 4. A description of the proposed format and agenda
 5. Proposed duration: include both minimum and ideal; we anticipate 
    durations of approximately a half day (afternoon), with the 
    possibility that some meritorious events could extend across
    two half-days.
 6. Procedures for selecting participants and presenters
 7. Intended audience
 8. Potential invited speakers/panelists
 9. Plans for dissemination (e.g., journal special issues)
10. Past experience of the organizer(s) relevant to the event

and should be submitted by email to the CG:APT Coordinator, Joe Mitchell
(joseph.mitchell@stonybrook.edu).  Notifications will be sent by January
23, 2012.

Further information:

It is anticipated that CG:APT events are operated at low cost; in
particular, there is no intended budget for invited speakers.  SoCG
organizers will provide organizational assistance, including
registration, coffee breaks, wireless network, meeting rooms (the SoCG
venue), a link to the web page of the event, etc.
